Nick McFarlane’s artwork deals with New Zealand’s cultural identity, focusing on what he describes as its ‘alter-ego’. This is made up from elements of society that are often overlooked as having little importance to the wider community but need to be explored if the country’s identity is to be understood in its entirety.

The work is often confrontational in aesthetic and message. From lo-fi hand-sewn gang-patches through to high end political graphics - his work is a chaotic call to action from the edge of a savaged culture.

Nick has been based in London for the last three years and has exhibited at New Zealand House, Notting Hill Arts Club and Ap-art gallery. He is currently working on a book about the mechanisms of psychological warfare.
